Organizations or programs assisting international exchange students who hold a J-1 visa, must adhere to the following guidelines as in alignment with Board Policies 3114 Foreign Exchange Students and 3114-R(1):
- Annually submit an Initial/Renewal Foreign Student Exchange Program Application (see above) to the Boise School District.
- No later than December 1st.
- After district approval (you will receive an email confirming/denying approval), your organization will need to submit a letter of interest to place student(s) in the prospective Boise School District high school no earlier than January 1 and no later than March 1.
- Each organization will be notified of any available student placement(s) by the school no later than March 15th.
- Each organization that has been approved shall notify the appropriate school of the following, no later than May 1st.
- The name, country, grade level and date of birth of the exchange student
- The name, address and phone number of the host family (who must live in the attendance area of the school in which placement is requested)
- The high school authorization form from the exchange organization
- Record of medical history, including recent physical exam with proof of Idaho State required immunizations and any medical/physical limitations
- Name and address of the local representative for the organization
- Copy of a valid student passport
- A transcript for each candidate, indicating grade placement and translated into English
- A record of English proficiency as defined in Board Procedure 3114
- If at any time, the student’s host family changes for any reason, the organization must contact the individual school prior to the change in host family taking place.
- If a foreign exchange student wishes to receive a regular diploma from a Boise District high school, he/she must complete all the Boise School District graduation requirements. This includes submission of an official transcript translated into English of credits already completed with descriptions for the courses taken. The translated transcript from the home country will be evaluated along with classes taken here in the United States.
