Volunteers Make a Difference

At Boise School District, we believe strong community partnerships are essential to student success. Volunteers play a vital role in creating safe, supportive learning environments that foster academic achievement and personal growth. Whether assisting in the classroom, supporting school events, or helping with extracurricular activities, volunteers extend the reach of our staff and bring meaningful connections to our students.

Aligned with the Boise School District Strategic Plan, our Volunteer Program ensures every volunteer is welcomed, informed, and prepared to serve in a manner that prioritizes student safety and supports educational excellence.

  • Step 1: Express Your Interest

Volunteers may be invited by school staff for specific roles, or community members may contact their neighborhood school to offer their support.

Every volunteer opportunity—no matter how big or small—contributes to our students’ growth and well-being.

    Step 2: Complete Required Forms

To ensure consistency and student safety, all volunteers must review program expectations and complete the required onboarding forms before volunteering.

Step 3: Submit Forms for Approval

Completed forms should be submitted to your school’s principal or program administrator. School administrators review each submission to ensure volunteers align with the District’s commitment to maintaining safe and supportive learning environments.

    Step 4: Begin Volunteering

Once approved, volunteers may begin supporting their school while following the District’s check-in procedures each time they arrive on campus.

  • To support a safe and consistent volunteer experience across the District, volunteers are asked to review program expectations and complete the following forms before volunteering.

Please submit completed forms to your school’s principal or program administrator for review and approval.

  • For the safety of our students and school communities, volunteers must follow check-in procedures every time they arrive on campus.

When volunteering at a Boise School District school, please:

    • Sign in at the school office
    • Present a valid ID
    • Wear a temporary volunteer badge while on campus
    • Check in through the District’s visitor management system

These procedures help maintain a safe and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors.

  • Certain volunteer roles require additional screening to ensure student safety.

    Volunteers with Unsupervised Student Contact

Roles that involve unsupervised student contact may require a full criminal background check through fingerprinting. Examples include:

    • Overnight field trips
    • Athletic programs
    • Extracurricular activities
    • Situations where volunteers may supervise students without staff present

    Fingerprinting Process

Volunteers requiring fingerprint clearance must schedule an appointment with the District’s Safety and Security Department.

    Contact:

    Bryce England
    Safety and Security Supervisor
    Email:  bryce.england@boiseschools.org

Please bring the following to your appointment:

    • A valid driver’s license or government-issued ID

The Boise School District covers the cost of fingerprinting as part of our commitment to maintaining safe learning environments.

    Volunteer Clearance

Volunteers requiring background checks may not begin service until official clearance has been received.

Final approval is provided by the building principal.
Athletic and extracurricular volunteers must also receive approval from the Director of Student Activities and Athletics.

  • The Boise School District Volunteer Program supports the goals outlined in the District’s Strategic Plan.

    Student-Centered Learning

Volunteers enrich learning environments by supporting instruction, mentoring students, and strengthening relationships that promote student success.

    Safe and Supportive Schools

Our volunteer guidelines, check-in procedures, and background screening requirements ensure the safety and well-being of every student.

    Community Partnerships

Volunteers embody our belief that education is a shared responsibility between schools, families, and the community. Their involvement strengthens the connection between Boise schools and the community we serve.
