FERPA Notice & Form

Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) is a federal law that protects the privacy of student education records and outlines the rights of parents/guardians and eligible students (students age 18 or older). FERPA provides families the right to inspect and review their student’s education records, request corrections to inaccurate information, and control the disclosure of personally identifiable information from those records, with certain legal exceptions.

The Boise School District is committed to safeguarding student privacy while also sharing limited directory information—such as a student’s name, grade level, or participation in activities—unless a parent/guardian or eligible student chooses to opt out.

On this page, you will find additional information about FERPA, a link to the District’s Board Policy, and the FERPA Directory Information Opt-Out Form for families who wish to limit the release of directory information.
