The Highly Gifted program follows the Idaho Core curriculum, but provides more depth, complexity, and rigor.  Emphasis is placed on the Boise School District gifted framework: creativity, leadership, problem solving, research, and social-emotional needs.

Highly Gifted GATE Description

Schools are grouped into a gifted pod. GATE pull out classes for the pod are held at one of the schools. Each pod has a gifted facilitator who teaches the GATE pull out classes. Transportation is provided for district enrolled students to and from their home school.  Private, charter, homeschool students must provide their own transportation.

Boise School District is proud to offer a pull out option. This option allows your child to attend a pull out GATE day once a week in a quadrant school. The focus for pull out differs from our more academic siblings, full time and highly gifted. In the pull out program, students will explore universal themes of innovation, exploration, transformation, ethics, and relationships. Students will be asked to think deeply about these themes and how they play a role in their own lives. These units will be  coupled with opportunities for project-based learning where students can use and develop skills in creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership, communication, collaboration, engineering, social and emotional learning, and the arts. Our aim is to expose students to an abundant array of topics and experiences, so that as they learn and grow, they become more aware of themselves and how they contribute to their world.

Students who have a qualifying IQ score (full scale IQ of 133 or above) and superior achievement scores are invited to apply for placement in the Highly Gifted Program.  Applications are reviewed by a selection committee that considers teacher and parent input, test scores, and the unmet needs of the student.

Boise School District students who attend Boise Schools Highly Gifted Program are eligible for transportation from a regional pick up site.

The Highly Gifted Program is located at Collister Elementary School, 4426 W. Catalpa Dr., Boise, ID 83703.

Please note applicants are NOT guaranteed placement as there are usually more applicants than spaces available.
