Type Station Purpose
The typing course is designed to be a 12-week course, taught 30 minutes each day. Depending on what the district requires for keyboarding, some of the lesson plans will not be necessary to teach. Please refer to your grade level-specific plans in this document for more information. In addition, starting at week 8, most of the typing is focused on practice prompts. Meaning, if a teacher needs to shorten the keyboarding program to 6 or 7 weeks, that is doable by not doing all of the practice prompts provided and rearranging as needed.
This instruction is mainly student-led on our platform, except for a few recommended lesson plans. We recommend that the teacher keep the students on the same lesson(s) each day to better manage student progress. If the teacher has other methods they prefer for student warm-up typing exercises, they are free to use those, and students can log on to the SS typing platform after for further learning. The typing course can be taught in any grade.
The main necessity is that students learn the proper hand position and start from lesson 1, regardless of their age.
All educators have access to create their own custom typing assignments in Type Station. This is great practice for spelling words and vocabulary terms!
You can easily create differentiated sections with a variety of settings to ensure that every student is working at the proper level to learn and be successful.
