Elementary Fine and Performing Arts
Welcome to the Fine and Performing Arts Curriculum for Elementary Teachers!
This site is for Boise School District Elementary Fine and Performing Arts teachers. Here you will find performance tasks, unit overviews, learning intentions, success criteria, recommended scope and sequence, and other resources to guide student learning.
Please click on the tabs to the right to access grade-level curriculum and other resources. If you need any additional assistance, please reach out to Fine and Performing Arts Supervisor Benjamin Simmonds – benjamin.simmonds@boiseschools.org or 208-854-4100
A key tenet of our district's teaching philosophy is to build a comfortable environment where students can enjoy themselves while learning. Part of the goal of music instruction should be to learn how to learn. Through creative games in music theory and instrumental training, entertaining repertoire, and collaboration with teachers and peers, students capture a sense of enrichment and place more value on music study.
We believe that every child has a powerful need for creativity and a natural
understanding of rhythm and music.
If nurtured, this can develop into refined skill and craftsmanship.

Calendar Options (based on what you teach):
Here is how to add an event to the calendar:
See example below. On the left-hand side of your calendar, find either Elementary Music Performance or Secondary Music Performance. Click on the box next to it. That will then display all events on that calendar to you, plus it will give you access to add your event. Please remember to put as many details as possible for your event, as I will then go in and add it to the Music Dept. An events calendar that is viewable by the public.
Note: Non-district events will not be added to the Music Dept. Events calendar.

- When interested in purchasing new music, please fill out the Music Order Form. To do so, please do one of the following: Fill out the Google Form above.
Once submitted and received, it will then go through the process of being double checked whether or not we currently have it in the music library.
If we currently have it in the music library, the music librarian will inform you and let you know the status of availability.
If we do not have it in the music library, it will then get sent for approval. Once approved, it will be ordered and sent to the music librarian. Once the music librarian is done processing the new music into our catalog system, you will receive an email indicating it is ready. The music librarian will work with you for the best way of receipt
Music Library:
If you are coming in the late afternoon, make sure you park outside of the gates, especially if you think you may still be in the library after 5:00 pm. The gates close exactly at 5:00 pm, and I wouldn't want your car to be locked in.
Music Library Hours during the school year are 7:30 am - 5:00 pm. *Note: Hours and gate closing time will differ during the summer months. Please get in touch with JoLynn Dicus if you plan to come by during that time to make sure you have access there.
How to get into the Music Library: Your school ID badge should work on the door to get into the music library. If it does not work, here are the following options during the school year:
-
If you arrive between 7:30 am & 3:30 pm, you can ring the doorbell by the door. Someone from IMC may be there to answer the door.
-
If you arrive after school hours (or no one comes to the door after ringing the doorbell), there should be a phone number on the door to call the custodian. She would be able to let you in as well. (Just in case the note is not on the door: The custodian number is 208-914-5845.
-
Finally, report your badge issue to JoLynn Dicus so she can work on getting it fixed.
Instrument Check Out Procedure: Once you have asked all other teachers for extra instruments, send the Music Librarian an email asking if we have the instrument and quantity you are looking for. At that time, she will let you know if we have them, and if so, she will get the instruments transferred to the school where they will be housed. She will then leave them at the library for you to pick up at your convenience.
Music Check Out Procedure: All music is on a first come first serve basis. All music must be returned promptly, checked back in on the checkout sheet, and returned to its correct place on the shelves. Do not expect the Music Librarian to file your music for you.
Music Library Location:
Address: 3324 S. Milwaukee Lane, Boise, ID. 83709 It is shared with the IMC in Room 115.
(Make sure you put Lane, not Street, if searching on Google Maps. The street will take you to the other side of town.
If you have any questions or get lost finding the music library, feel free to call Tina Stryker at 208-472-3232.
