  • Boise School District Statement Regarding

    Reconsideration of Books & Materials

Every child in the Boise School District deserves to receive a high-quality education provided by our high-quality professional educators. To that end, the District utilizes a number of books and/or other materials to prepare our students for success in college, career, and citizenship. Boise School District’s curriculum aligns with the Idaho Core Curriculum Standards and can be found on the District’s Curriculum by Content Area website. We use a variety of materials to help students master the essential skills of each class.

As part of our commitment to provide the finest education possible, we follow the state textbook adoption procedure dictated by Idaho State Code 33-512A, which involves a rigorous process that provides multiple opportunities for public input before a particular textbook is adopted by the District. In addition, the District’s practice is to encourage parents/guardians to work together with their student’s teacher and/or school principal if questions arise as to the appropriateness of particular materials or textbooks for a given student. Parents always have a seat at the table when it comes to choices for their individual child’s education. Furthermore, the District has a Request for Reconsider of Books or Other Materials policy that may be followed.

    Overview

As part of our commitment to provide the finest education possible, from time to time, we adopt new curricular materials such as textbooks to ensure students have the latest educationally-appropriate information. Through a combination of industry demand and student interest, the Dennis Technical Education Center will start a Cosmetology course in the 2025 - 2026 school year. As part of our commitment to provide the finest education possible, we are forming a committee to consider the adoption of a curriculum for the Cosmetology class.

As part of our process, we follow the state textbook adoption procedure outlined by Idaho State Code 33-512A. This rigorous process offers multiple opportunities for parental involvement and public input before a particular textbook is adopted by the District.
